Don't you just love the team competition. I love it! I don't get
the opportunity to play in a team format as much as I did as an
amateur. There is something about sharing the intensity, pressure and
atmosphere with your peers in a group that you just don’t get as an
individual.
This week the USA is competing to hold onto the very prestigious
"Solheim Cup" against the underdogs from Europe. I have had a few
emails from fans asking me why I am not playing for Europe since I was
born in England. It’s actually true; I am eligible to play as I was
born in England, and still hold a British Passport. I was asked to
consider if I would like to play in the Solheim Cup this year.
However, my reasons for not considering this are valid and
appropriate.
I do love my history; I was born in England and spent my first 9
years there as a wee-english-lass. My family immigrated to Australia
in March 1989, and I’m an Australian Citizen. We moved for two reasons.
Firstly, Dad wanted us to have the freedom to excel in all aspects of
life, and he felt Australia presented those opportunities to do so.
Secondly, Australia has lots and lots of sun, and the weather in
England was bringing Dad down.
I first picked up a golf club in Australia. I played for Australia
at a young age and represented Australia as both an amateur and as a
professional. Therefore, I'm an Australian golfer; always have been,
and always will be.
Lastly, I wouldn't feel right playing for Europe in the Solheim Cup
especially when I have not played on the Ladies European Tour. It wouldn't
be fair on the European players and I would not feel comfortable
taking someone’s spot.
I'm excited about this weeks event. I have a feeling its going to
be a real showdown between the Americans and the Euros. Lets Hope!!!!!
Lastly, for fear of losing fans I won't tell you who I'm pulling
for, but you could probably guess :)
Cheers, Linds
